I guess it went over my head.

I thought they were giving those horrid air fresheners because the South Beach Diet makes you fart like you’ve never farted before. They assumed that if their hosts were on the diet, they might want something to cut the smell.

Interesting; I think the shirt slogans were meant to be explicit clues, apparently the cartoonist realized that people wouldn’t get the joke, so he tells us “Think”, and then juxtaposes “Scent” with “Clue”. Kind of a “wink, wink, get it, huh, get it” sort of moment.

I’m wondering why the hostess seems to be meeting her guests in her pajamas. (Her shirt says “Hanes Evening Wear”, I’d guess.)
